Beaded Weft Aftercare After a Transform Extensions Quick Move Up
By Lotus Beauty Collective | August 15, 2026
Your quick move up is designed to keep your beaded weft secure, comfortable, and invisible as your natural hair grows. Our number one rule in Roseville is simple: for the first 48 to 72 hours, keep the beads dry and don’t mess with them, especially if you’re sweating, styling tight, or using anything oily at the roots.
A quick move up only takes about 35 minutes, but the aftercare you do in the next couple days is what keeps everything feeling good on your scalp and looking “fresh-installed.” If you’re juggling work, kids, summer heat, and that constant temptation to throw your hair up, this guide keeps it simple and realistic.
0 to 72 hours: keep beads dry, skip tight styles, calm the scalp
Right after your beaded weft quick move up, the goal is to let your scalp settle and let the beads sit exactly where we placed them. In those first 48 to 72 hours, we want no water at the roots and no heavy manipulation around the weft.
Quick check: If you feel the urge to scratch, tug, or “see if it’s tight, ” pause. That’s how we accidentally stress the bead line in the first couple days.
Do this
- Keep hair down or loosely styled. Think low-tension, nothing that pulls near the bead line.
- Brush gently with a loop brush or extension-safe brush. Start at the ends, work up, and use your other hand to hold the hair above the weft so you’re not yanking on the attachments.
- Sleep in a loose braid or ponytail and, if you have it, use a silk or satin pillowcase to cut down on friction and tangling.
Avoid this
- Heavy sweating for about 48 hours. Roseville heat is real, so if you can’t avoid it, keep hair loose, blot sweat at the scalp, and don’t drench the bead line.
- Oil-based serums and heavy conditioners near the attachment line. Those products make hair slippery at the roots, which is exactly what we don’t want after a move up.
- High ponytails, tight buns, and anything that creates constant tension on the same spots.
First 2 weeks: wash smarter, brush cleaner, and don’t feed the bead line with oils
After the initial keep-it-dry window, the first two weeks are where most extension issues either start or get prevented. We’re talking bead slipping, tangling at the weft, and that sore “why does this feel tight” spot that usually comes from brushing too aggressively or wearing the same tight style over and over.
When you wash, focus shampoo on the scalp and roots and let the suds run through the lengths. Use your fingertips, not your nails. Then condition mid-length to ends only. Keep the bead line clean, but don’t pack it with conditioner.
Pool season note for Roseville: Chlorine and sunscreen build-up can dry out extension hair fast. If you swim, rinse promptly and then detangle gently once you’re out. Don’t let wet hair sit twisted on top of your head.
Drying matters more than most people think
After washing, get your roots and the bead area dry. We generally recommend blow-drying the attachment area on a comfortable warm setting. Leaving the bead line damp for hours can lead to tangling, odd smells, and a weft that doesn’t lay as nicely.
Your easy daily beaded weft routine (brush, protect, repeat)
You don’t need a complicated routine. You need a consistent one. Most days, your beaded weft aftercare comes down to three habits: gentle brushing, smart product placement, and low-tension styling.
Brushing that doesn’t stress the weft
Brush at least morning and night, and any time wind or activity tangles you up. Start at ends, then mid-length, then closer to roots. Hold the hair above the weft so the brush isn’t pulling on beads.
Product placement: lengths only
Use a sulfate-free shampoo. Use a leave-in detangler and heat protectant on the mid-lengths and ends. Keep oils, thick masks, and heavy conditioners away from the bead line.
Heat: protect first, then style
Extensions usually love a little polish, but keep the tool off the bead line. Work on the lengths and don’t clamp directly where the weft sits.
6 to 8 week check-ins: the move-up schedule that keeps it comfy
A quick move up is maintenance, not a one-and-done. Most beaded weft wearers do best with 6 to 8 week check-ins so the extensions stay secure and invisible as your natural hair grows out.
If you’re close to Downtown Roseville, we’re conveniently located near Vernon Street Town Square and Old Town, so popping in for a quick look is easy. We also see plenty of commuters coming along I-80 and families driving in from Rocklin, Granite Bay, Antelope, Citrus Heights, Loomis, and Lincoln who just want a low-drama upkeep routine that fits real life.
If something feels off, don’t wait: Catching a small slip early is usually a quick fix. Waiting until it mats around the weft is what turns it into a longer appointment.
When to text us: slipping beads, tugging, or matting around the weft
Some awareness in the first week is normal. Sharp pain isn’t. If you notice a bead that looks like it moved, a spot that keeps tugging, or any matting starting near the weft, reach out and let us know what you’re feeling. We’ll get you in for a quick check and keep your install protected.
